Conservative led Wiltshire Council has recently launched a new Explore Wiltshire app, as part of their Wiltshire Towns Programme to help boost the local economy and increase footfall across our county.

Now it’s summer, it’s a great time to get out and explore your local market town, and find out about Wiltshire’s fantastic hidden history along the way.

The free Explore Wiltshire app features trails that all the family and visitors can enjoy, and information about historical landmarks, cultural sites and significant events that have helped to shape Wiltshire’s landscape. It also aims to encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses in our towns, villages and city while they explore.

How you can help people to Explore Wiltshire

They need your help to promote the Explore Wiltshire app and draw people into the trails and around the centres of our towns, villages and city!

They are hoping that people enjoying the trails will support local businesses at the same time, perhaps popping in for a coffee, a bite to eat or exploring the great shops across our county while they learn about the rich cultural heritage of Wiltshire.

They have a range of assets that you can use to help share the message.

More about the app

The app was created in collaboration with town and parish councils, the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, museums and Bristol-based app developer Calvium, on the Place Experience Platform, which supports the local and visitor economy.

The easy to use location-aware app also includes an introduction from Phil Harding of Wessex Archaeology and popular member of the former Channel 4 programme Time Team, with historic photos, engravings and information from the archives of the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.

The app has initially launched featuring information and trails for Bradford on Avon, Chippenham, Cricklade, Devizes, Salisbury and Warminster, plus a link to the Explore Malmesbury webpage. The next towns that are planned to launch in the coming months including Trowbridge, Pewsey, Marlborough and South West Wiltshire (Tisbury and Wilton).

Contact your town or parish council if you would like your local area to be featured on the app.
