The Parliamentary candidate process is now moving forwards, after the completion of a review of it following the General Election. Given the significant criticism of the process before the election, we were firm that the review needed to be thorough, and involve all members. Exceptionally for a review of this type, we not only consulted but also shared draft recommendations for review and comment. We are now implementing these, in parallel with opening applications for new applicants, former candidates and former MPs alike. Assessments (based on a revised process) will start in October, so that we build a list of candidates to apply to seats from 2026 onwards (exact dates for enabling seats to open for applications have yet to be determined). The Association selection stage will be amended to ensure a choice of candidates, and more involvement of members throughout.
